COURSE CURRICULUM

Fibre Arts program, students engage in an intensive studio-based curriculum that combines tradition, innovation, and creativity in the exploration of textiles. Through a rich combination of theory and practice, you will study fabric and fibre construction (ARTS 991), fibre arts design (ARTS 989), and historical context in Fibre Arts – History (ARTS 444), building a strong foundation in the field. Courses such as Fibre Arts – Basic Construction (ARTS1935), Drawing (ARTS 990), Dyeing (ARTS1938), and Pigment Applications (ARTS1936) provide the technical and artistic skills necessary for expressive and functional textile creation. The program includes hands-on learning in Fibre Arts – Sculpture (ARTS1940), Techniques (ARTS1939), and Fibre Arts – Science (ARTS 450), helping students understand both the artistic and scientific properties of materials. Students also develop original projects through Project Design (ARTS1937) and work in the Innovation Studio I and II (ARTS1941, ARTS1942), applying and refining their skills in a collaborative, creative setting. The studio environment includes access to looms, spinning wheels, industrial sewing machines, dye labs, and screen-printing equipment. To prepare for professional opportunities, students also complete a Marketing/Portfolio Development course (MKTG 53), graduating with a diverse portfolio and the confidence to pursue careers or further studies in fibre arts and design.
