COURSE CURRICULUM

The ceramics program offers a comprehensive curriculum delivered in person, designed to provide students with a broad understanding of ceramic art and its processes. The first semester includes a diverse range of courses starting with Art History XIII - Ceramics, which covers 48 hours and explores the historical context and development of ceramics as an art form. Students also engage in Ceramic Decoration, Ceramic Processes I through IV, each lasting 48 hours, where they learn essential techniques and methods involved in creating ceramic works. The program includes hands-on projects such as Ceramics Project I and II, with 48 and 96 hours respectively, allowing students to apply their skills in practical and creative ways. Ceramics Sculpture and Design - Ceramics courses, both 48 hours, focus on sculptural techniques and design principles specific to ceramics. Drawing for Ceramics, another 48-hour course, emphasizes the importance of drawing skills as a foundation for ceramic design. Firing Techniques, a shorter 18-hour course, introduces students to the methods and technology involved in firing ceramics safely and effectively. Glaze Science, lasting 30 hours, provides in-depth knowledge about glaze formulation and application. In addition to technical skills, the program includes Marketing and Portfolio Development for 48 hours to help students prepare for professional opportunities by building a strong portfolio and learning how to market their work. Overall, this program covers approximately 660 hours in the first semester alone, offering a thorough blend of theory, practical skills, creative projects, and professional development to prepare students for a career in ceramics.
