COURSE CURRICULUM

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is a comprehensive two-semester certificate in the first semester, delivered in person, students complete foundational courses such as Clinical Preparation and Success Strategies for PSW, Communications for Health Professionals, Computer Skills for PSW, Foundations for Personal Support Worker I, and Across the Lifespan. These are complemented by hands-on training in PSW Applications and Interventions I, PSW Skills Lab I, and PSW Clinical I in long-term care settings. The second semester, offered in a hybrid format, focuses on more advanced care topics, including Mental Health and Palliative Care, Assisting with Medications, and Foundations for Personal Support Workers II. Students also take part in Professional Practice and Simulation, which integrates theoretical knowledge with real-life scenarios. The semester continues to emphasize practical experience through PSW Applications and Interventions II, PSW Skills Lab II, and two clinical placements: PSW Clinical II in long-term care and PSW Clinical in the community. Students also complete a PSW Consolidation placement to refine their skills and prepare for employment. The program provides approximately 400 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 300 hours of clinical training. Graduates will be equipped to assist individuals across the lifespan, including children, adults, and seniors, and will be ready to work in various health care settings such as long-term care facilities, hospitals, and community agencies.
