Fleming College, officially Sir Sandford Fleming College, is a public College of Applied Arts and Technology located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1967, it was named after Sir Sandford Fleming, a Scottish-born engineer and inventor best known for developing Universal Standard Time and being knighted by Queen Victoria in 1897. The college was founded following a 1965 legislative initiative led by Ontario’s then-Minister of Education, William G. Davis, which created a network of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology aimed at providing accessible, career-focused post-secondary education across the province. David B. Sutherland, the college's first president and husband of Peterborough’s longest-serving mayor, Sylvia Sutherland, played a key role in shaping its early development. Since its inception, Fleming College has grown into a respected institution offering a wide variety of diploma, certificate, apprenticeship, and continuing education programs in fields such as environmental and natural resource sciences, health and wellness, business, trades and technology, and community development.
