COURSE CURRICULUM

This Occupational Health and Safety Management program is structured to build a strong foundation in both Canadian workplace systems and core safety management principles. In Level 1, students study topics such as contemporary Canadian society, government and politics, immigration, healthcare systems, workplace communication, and post-secondary learning skills, helping them understand the broader social and institutional context in which occupational health and safety operates. Level 2 introduces the core safety discipline, including health and safety management, hazard identification and risk assessment, and practical laboratory applications, alongside courses in organizational behaviour, legislation and standards, professional ethics, workplace wellness, and communication for safety professionals. Students also complete co-op preparation to support future work-integrated learning. In Level 3, learning advances into more applied and professional areas, including advanced health and safety management, complex hazard control, program design, leadership and management principles, and environmental protection and sustainability. Career development courses help students prepare for industry roles while strengthening professional identity. Across the program, students develop the ability to assess workplace risks, design and implement safety programs, ensure compliance with legislation, and promote healthier work environments. This structured curriculum prepares graduates for supervisory-level positions in occupational health and safety across a wide range of industries, combining technical expertise, leadership skills, and practical experience.
