The Fashion Design program at Fanshawe College spans six levels over three years, providing students with a comprehensive education in all facets of the fashion industry. In Level 1, students take foundational courses including WRIT-1036 Reason & Writing 1-Art & Design, DRAF-1057 Pattern Making 1, ARTS-1024 Fashion Drawing & Theory, DESG-1062 Sample Room Production 1, FASH-1003 Design Studio 1, and FASH-1005 Fashion Industry Analysis. In Level 2, students expand their technical and creative abilities with COMP-1353 Computerized Fashion Illustration 1, FASH-1054 Textile 1: Fibre & Fabric, DRAF-1058 Pattern Making 2, FASH-1009 Design Studio 2, DESG-1063 Sample Room Production 2, COMM-3074 Communications for Design, FASH-1041 Technical Drawings & Specifications, and COOP-1020 Co-operative Education Employment Prep. Level 3 deepens technical knowledge with COMP-1386 Computerized Fashion Illustration & Specification, DESG-3038 Sample Room Production 3, COMP-3005 Computers for Apparel Manufacturing 1, DRAF-3027 Pattern Making 3, FASH-3032 Design Studio 3, FASH-3033 Textile 2: Surface Design, and FASH-1016 Trends, Styles & Influences. Level 4 includes business and advanced design training through BUSI-1078 The Business of Fashion, DESG-3039 Sample Room Production 4, COMP-3011 Computers for Apparel Manufacturing 2, FASH-3034 Design Studio 4, DRAF-3028 Pattern Making 4, DESG-1079 Drape, and FASH-5014 Textile 3: Advanced Textile Techniques, along with a General Education elective. In Level 5, students further specialize with BUSI-3034 Global Apparel Sourcing & Mass Production, DESG-5020 Sample Room Production 5, COMP-5003 Computers for Apparel Manufacturing 3, FASH-5011 Design Studio 5, DRAF-5014 Pattern Making 5, METH-5009 Industrial Pattern Grading, and COMP-3097 Portfolio & Career Development. The final Level 6 includes DESG-5021 Sample Room Production 6, FASH-5013 Line Development, and FASH-5012 Fashion Show Production, culminating in the creation and presentation of a professional fashion collection.
