COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemical Laboratory Technology – Science Laboratory program at Fanshawe College offers a comprehensive six-level curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the core sciences and essential laboratory skills. In Level 1, students begin with fundamental courses including Cytology, General Chemistry, Reason & Writing focused on technology, Math, Environmental & Science Issues, and Fundamentals of Science, establishing a solid scientific base. Level 2 deepens this knowledge with advanced General Chemistry, Microbiology focusing on bacteriology, Physics, and Mathematics, alongside preparation for co-operative education employment. As students progress to Level 3, the program introduces Anatomy & Physiology, Analytical Chemistry, Statistics, and Current Techniques in Plant Agriculture, preparing learners for specialized scientific applications. Level 4 includes Microbiology 2, Organic Chemistry, Instrumental Methods of Analysis, Calculus, and Thermodynamics & Optics, which enhance understanding of advanced scientific principles and laboratory instrumentation. Level 5 continues with in-depth studies in Biochemistry, advanced Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Food Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Calculus, and Industrial Relations, broadening both technical expertise and workplace skills. The final Level 6 integrates Topics in Biotechnology, Modern Physics, Industrial Chemistry, advanced Instrumental Methods of Analysis, Language and Communication Skills, and Industrial Hygiene, equipping students with both scientific proficiency and effective communication abilities essential for professional success. Throughout the program, students engage with a balance of theoretical learning and practical laboratory experience, preparing them for a variety of careers in applied research, quality control, and industrial laboratory environments.
