COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician program consists of a comprehensive curriculum designed to build strong technical and practical skills across four levels of study. In the first level, students take foundational courses including Basic AutoCAD, Fundamentals of Computation, Computer Operations, Mathematics in Technology, Health and Safety, Civil Engineering Statics, Sustainability in the Built Environment, and an introduction to Plane Surveying. These courses establish the essential knowledge required for understanding civil engineering principles and technology use. In the second level, students advance their skills with courses like AutoCAD Intermediate, Highway Design Fundamentals, Civil Engineering Drawings, Civil Engineering Statics 2, Electronic Surveys, Water and Civilization, Mathematics in Technology 2, Reason and Writing for Technology, and preparation for Co-operative Education employment. These courses deepen technical competencies and prepare students for hands-on learning in real-world settings. The third level includes a General Education elective alongside mandatory courses such as Civil Engineering AutoCAD Drawing, Soil Mechanics, Highway Technology 1, and Construction Materials, emphasizing the practical applications of engineering concepts. Finally, the fourth level focuses on Quantities for Civil Engineering Projects, Technical Report Production for Building Technology, Building Science, Civil Engineering Computer Applications, Construction Methods, Geographic Information Systems, and Contract Administration. Throughout the program, students develop strong design, analysis, and project management skills supported by both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The combination of coursework and co-op placement prepares graduates to effectively contribute to diverse civil engineering projects, using current industry tools and methods. This well-rounded education ensures graduates are ready to meet the challenges of the civil engineering field with competence and confidence.
