COURSE CURRICULUM

In Level 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of residential construction through courses in drawings and takeoff, materials and methods, and forming and framing techniques. They gain hands-on experience with tools and learn essential computer applications relevant to the construction industry. Additionally, students prepare for workplace integration with a co-operative education employment preparation course. Level 2 builds upon the foundational skills with advanced studies in framing methods and construction takeoff and ordering. Students further their understanding of building materials and methods, explore the history of Canadian residential architecture, and develop visual communication skills through graphic communication. Technical writing for technology is also introduced to strengthen professional communication abilities. In Level 3, students take a general education elective and continue their construction education with courses in HVAC systems, construction administration, and estimating. They study contract law to understand legal aspects of the industry, explore more advanced building materials, and gain practical skills in site layout through a building layout course. By Level 4, the curriculum advances into more specialized topics such as plumbing and electrical systems, sophisticated construction software, and higher-level construction estimating. Students continue developing administrative expertise in construction management and expand their material knowledge in advanced methods. The level concludes with hands-on training in advanced tools, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for real-world construction environments.
