COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Applied Technology program is a comprehensive four-year degree designed to provide students with strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills in science, biotechnology, and applied laboratory technologies. In Level 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Applications. Level 2 builds on this with advanced studies in Chemistry, Physics, Plant and Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and Mathematics. In Level 3, students focus on Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Statistics and Quality Assurance, along with co-op preparation. Level 4 introduces Genetics, Radiation Physics, Organic Chemistry, Advanced Computer Applications, and Occupational Health and Safety. Level 5 develops deeper expertise in Biochemistry, Instrumental Chemical Analysis, Industrial Microbiology, and advanced Organic Chemistry. Level 6 expands into Applied Molecular Genetics, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Research and Technical Writing, Animal Care and Handling, and advanced Biochemistry. Level 7 emphasizes Applied Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bioprocess Engineering, Biosafety and Regulatory Affairs, and includes a thesis component. Level 8 focuses on advanced biotechnology applications, bioethics, immunology and virology, manufacturing process engineering, and current topics in biotechnology. The program also includes a mandatory co-op work term, providing real-world industry experience and preparing graduates for careers in biotechnology, research laboratories, pharmaceuticals, and applied science industries.
