COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology program at Fanshawe College is a structured diploma program designed to prepare students for careers in planning, designing, and maintaining civil infrastructure systems such as highways, buildings, drainage systems, and municipal services. In Level 1, students are introduced to foundational subjects including Basic AutoCAD, Fundamentals of Computation, Computer Operations, Mathematics in Technology, Health and Safety, Sustainability in the Built Environment, and Civil Engineering Statics. Level 2 builds on these skills with AutoCAD Intermediate, Highway Design Fundamentals, Advanced Statics, Electronic Surveys, Mathematics in Technology, Technical Writing, Civil Engineering Drawings, along with Plane Surveying and Water and Civilization studies. In Level 3, students study Civil Engineering AutoCAD Drawing, Construction Materials, Highway Technology, Soil Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, and advanced mathematics. Level 4 focuses on Fluid Mechanics, Theory of Structures, Calculus, GIS, Civil Engineering Computer Applications, and project quantity estimation. Level 5 covers Storm and Sanitary Drainage Design, Building Science, Surface Flows, Steel Design, Structural Drawing, Contract Administration, Technical Report Writing, and Construction Methods. Level 6 includes Municipal Engineering, Reinforced Concrete and Foundations, Environmental Drafting, Statistical Data Management, Environmental Technology, Engineering Economics, and Survey Field Applications. The program also includes co-op preparation, providing students with real-world industry experience in civil engineering environments.
