COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program at Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver offers students the flexibility to pursue either a general IT degree or add a Minor in Business Administration, allowing for tailored career pathways in the evolving tech industry. In Year 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Transitioning to University Life, Rhetoric and Inquiry, Computer Concepts, Physical Geology, Human Environment, and Applied Statistics. Those pursuing the business minor take General Physics instead of general science electives. In Year 2, core IT and communication skills are developed through programming courses, web applications, digital system design, and technical communication, while business minor students also complete Organizational Behavior. Year 3 deepens technical competencies with Digital Media Publishing, Database Systems, Data Structures, Linux System Administration, and Human-Computer Interface courses, complemented by electives or business-focused courses such as Financial Accounting, Microeconomics, Financial Analysis, and Marketing for minor students. In Year 4, the curriculum shifts toward advanced topics and real-world application, including Data Communication and Networks, IT Needs Assessment, Programming for the Internet, Cybersecurity, Operating Systems, and a Capstone Project. The final term includes a mandatory IT internship to give students valuable industry experience before graduation. Students with the business minor round out their studies with courses like Business and the Law. Throughout the program, FDU Vancouver students benefit from hands-on learning, access to downtown Vancouver’s tech ecosystem, and eligibility for Canada’s Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. Whether following the general or minor pathway, the BSIT degree prepares graduates to excel in roles such as software developer, IT analyst, or cybersecurity professional in today’s digital economy.
