COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law Enforcement program at Durham College offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced roles in the justice and public safety sectors. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation through courses such as Media Communications, Digital Technology for Law Enforcement, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for Law Enforcement, which equip them with essential communication, technical, and cultural competency skills. Courses like Advanced Fitness 1 – LAW and Field Placement 1 – LAW provide practical training and real-world experience. Students also explore key leadership principles in Law Enforcement Leadership and Management and gain critical emergency communication skills in Public Safety Telecommunicator. In the second semester, students dive deeper into criminal studies with courses like Crime and The Technological Society, Sexual and Other Crimes of Violence, and Global Issues: Extremism and Trafficking, examining the complex and evolving nature of crime in a global context. Continued physical preparedness is emphasized through Advanced Fitness 2 – LAW, while Field Placement 2 – LAW offers additional hands-on experience in law enforcement settings. Conflict Management – LAW and Basic Emergency Management round out the program, providing students with critical crisis response and decision-making skills. Together, these courses offer a dynamic blend of academic theory and field-ready training for careers in law enforcement.
