COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fire Prevention and Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in fire protection, prevention, and life safety. In Semester 1, students build a foundation with courses such as Fire Dynamics, Communication Foundations, AutoCAD 1, Electricity and Electronics for Fire Detection, Math for Fire and Life Safety 1, and Principles of Fire Prevention. Semester 2 advances skills in Building Construction for Fire, Sprinkler Design 1, AutoCAD 2, Math for Fire and Life Safety 2, Fire Detection and Alarm, and hands-on experience in Fire Safety Systems Lab 1. In Semester 3, students continue with Sprinkler Design 2, Fire Alarm Design 1, Ontario Fire Code 1, Special Extinguishing Systems, and Fire Safety Systems Lab 2, along with an Indigenous Elective. Semester 4 includes Technical Report Writing, Sprinkler Design 3, Fire Alarm Design 2, two General Education Electives, Building Code 1, and Project Management for Fire and Life Safety. Semester 5 emphasizes legal and inspection knowledge through courses like Hazardous Materials, Fire and Life Safety Educator 1, Fire Inspector 1, Legislation, Ontario Fire Code 2, Courtroom Procedures, and Fire Safety Systems Lab 3. In the final semester, students complete Fire and Life Safety Educator 2, Ontario Fire Code 3, Fire Inspector 2, Plans Examination, Building Code 2, and Fire and Explosion Investigation, preparing them for industry roles with technical and regulatory expertise.
