COURSE CURRICULUM

In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses in communication, field placement preparation, and an introduction to Indigenous populations. They also study principles of psychology, lifeskills, and professional practice, while learning basic interviewing and counselling skills. In Semester 2, students continue their learning with an Indigenous elective, development across the lifespan, and diversity and cultural humility. They also engage in their first field placement and seminar, enhancing their practical experience, and further develop their counselling skills, while studying crisis intervention. In Semester 3, students take a general education elective, delve into pharmacology and behavior, and explore social welfare and anti-oppressive practice. They learn about special populations, including those facing addictions, mental health challenges, and gerontology, alongside family systems and group counselling skills. Field Placement 2 and Seminar offer hands-on experience. Semester 4 includes another general education elective and courses in abnormal psychology, social justice, and specialized studies in addictions, mental health, and gerontology. The semester culminates with Field Placement 3 and Seminar, providing students with advanced real-world experience in social work practice.
