COURSE CURRICULUM
In Semester 1, students begin their journey with foundational courses such as Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology, providing essential knowledge of the human body and healthcare language. They also take an Indigenous Elective to gain an understanding of Indigenous perspectives in health. The semester includes Development of Self I, focusing on personal and professional growth, and Health and Healing I, which introduces core concepts in holistic care. Professional Practice I and Practice Lab I offer opportunities to begin applying knowledge in simulated and clinical settings. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with Health Assessment and Applied Math for Nurses, enhancing critical thinking and numerical skills essential for clinical practice. Students continue to advance their hands-on abilities in Practice Lab II and deepen their understanding of specific populations through Health and Healing II - The Older Adult and Health and Healing II - Maternal-Child. These are complemented by Professional Practice II - Older Adult and Professional Practice II - Maternal Child, where students gain practical experience in relevant healthcare environments. In Semester 3, students progress to Practice Lab III and study Pharmacology, learning about medications and their application in nursing. The semester emphasizes mental health and community care through Health and Healing III - Mental Health and Health and Healing III - Community, alongside their respective Professional Practice III placements. Pathophysiology introduces the mechanisms of disease, deepening students’ clinical knowledge. Semester 4 includes a General Education Elective and a General Elective Credit, allowing students to explore broader interests or deepen specific skills. Health and Healing IV continues to develop advanced care principles, while Professional Practice IV gives students more complex clinical exposure. Development of Self II fosters further personal and professional growth. In the final semester, students complete Professional Practice Preparation to ensure readiness for full-time clinical roles, and Professional Practice V, a capstone placement experience that brings together all previous learning in a real-world healthcare setting.
