COURSE CURRICULUM

In Semester 1, students are introduced to foundational courses in communication, ethical reasoning, and health and wellness. They also study the Canadian Criminal Justice System, the Criminal Code of Canada, and interview and investigative techniques, along with an introduction to psychology. In Semester 2, students develop professionally, preparing for tactical challenges and exploring topics like crime victims, cybercrime, and provincial offences. They also study conflict management and participate in tactical preparation labs. Semester 3 builds on communication skills, focusing on law enforcement communications, youth in conflict with the law, and criminal statutes. Students learn about community policing, traffic management, and engage in field placements to gain practical experience. A course on valuing diversity broadens their understanding of societal dynamics. In Semester 4, students complete general education electives and courses in politics and public administration, alongside further tactical preparation labs. They revisit community policing and traffic management, while also studying police powers, evidence, and investigation techniques. The semester culminates in a final field placement, providing additional hands-on law enforcement experience and continued focus on diversity.
