COURSE CURRICULUM

In Semester 1, students begin their studies with foundational courses in communication and writing, legal computer applications, and an Indigenous elective. They explore key areas of law, including torts and contracts, the Canadian legal system, legal relationships, and administrative law. In Semester 2, students enhance their communication skills and study ethics and professional responsibility. They focus on small claims court, landlord and tenant law, evidence and litigation processes, and legal research and writing, along with tribunal practice and procedure. In Semester 3, students advance their legal knowledge with courses in legal computer applications, employment law, and provincial and motor vehicle offences. They further develop their legal research and writing skills and learn advocacy techniques while participating in field placement for hands-on experience. Semester 4 focuses on legal accounting, insurance and accident benefits, and alternative dispute resolution, along with practice management for legal assistants. Students also complete their second field placement, gaining practical legal experience, and study small claims court procedures, criminal summary conviction procedures, and further legal topics. The semester culminates in the integration of knowledge through advanced practice management.
