COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fitness and Health Promotion program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, exercise science, and wellness. In **Semester 1**, students are introduced to functional anatomy, the basics of exercise physiology, and communications tailored to fitness and health promotion. They also begin learning about wellness concepts, fitness assessment techniques, and take an Indigenous elective to broaden cultural awareness in health-related contexts. In **Semester 2**, students build on their knowledge with advanced topics in exercise physiology, professional practice and standards, fitness class leadership, and more in-depth fitness assessments. Courses in exercise prescription, nutrition, and research techniques further develop their ability to create evidence-based fitness and wellness programs. **Semester 3** shifts toward practical application with studies in business practices, injury management, and health promotion strategies focused on behavior change. Students also prepare for their field placement and continue with advanced fitness assessments and exercise prescription. A general education elective broadens their academic scope. In **Semester 4**, students explore exercise physiology for diverse populations and participate in a hands-on field placement to apply their skills in a real-world setting. They also take a general education elective and study community health promotion, preparing them for careers in fitness training, health coaching, or wellness coordination in various community and clinical environments.
