COURSE CURRICULUM

The Developmental Services Worker program offers a structured curriculum across four semesters that equips students with the knowledge and skills to support individuals with developmental disabilities. In Semester 1, students build foundational knowledge through courses like Communication Foundations, Developmental Disabilities I, Health & Well Being, Developmental Psychology, Introduction to Development Services, Field Placement Preparation, and General Education and elective credits. Semester 2 deepens understanding with Academic Writing for Success, Behavioural Support I, Developmental Disabilities II, Person-Centered Planning, Pharmacology Theory, Field Placement I with Seminar, and an Indigenous Elective. Semester 3 focuses on advanced practical skills and support techniques through Behavioural Support II, Personal Support Skills, Health and Well Being 2, and Field Placement II, providing hands-on experience in real-world settings. The final semester, Semester 4, emphasizes community building, professional communication, family and social systems, and culminates with Field Placement III, allowing students to apply their learning in professional environments. This comprehensive program blends theory with practical experience, preparing graduates to develop and implement support plans, advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities, and promote their full participation in communities, ensuring they can make a meaningful impact in their future careers.
