COURSE CURRICULUM

The Carpentry – Building Construction Technician diploma program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop both practical and theoretical construction skills over four semesters. In Semester 1, students build foundational knowledge through courses like Construction Math & Estimating I, Tools I (Hand Tools), Tools II (Portable Power Tools), Layout Footings & Foundations, Construction Site Safety, and Communication Foundations, along with a General Education elective. Semester 2 introduces Construction & Blueprint Reading, Construction Math & Estimating II, and Residential Construction, while also enhancing soft skills through Interpersonal and Group Dynamics and another General Education elective. In Semester 3, students deepen their technical expertise with courses such as Building Science, Exterior Finish, and Roof Framing, supported by a third General Education elective. The final semester focuses on advanced carpentry techniques and real-world application, featuring Field Placement, Basic Casework, Introduction to Common Stairs, Interior Trim, Roof Framing (Intersecting Roofs and Engineered Systems), and Sustainable Building Practices. To ensure readiness for the field, students also complete a Field Placement Preparation course. This curriculum blends hands-on training with essential theory, equipping graduates with the diverse skill set needed to succeed in today’s construction industry, with a strong focus on safety, sustainability, and up-to-date building practices.
