COURSE CURRICULUM

The Power Engineering Techniques – Fourth Class program at Durham College includes a comprehensive range of courses designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for power engineering careers. In the first semester, students take courses such as Practical 1 - Electrical/Instrumentation, Math, Practical 1 - Mechanical, Boilers - Design and Construction, Chemistry and Water Treatment, Electricity, Instrumentation and Control, Power Technician Administration, and Applied Science. These courses introduce essential concepts in electrical and mechanical systems, boiler design, chemistry relevant to water treatment, and instrumentation, alongside administrative skills. In the second semester, the curriculum continues with Communication Foundations, Practical 2 - Mechanical, Pumping Systems, Building Systems, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Boiler Operations, Maintenance and Safety, Practical 2 - Power Plant, and Steam Time Preparation. This semester emphasizes the operation and maintenance of power plant systems, HVAC systems, and pumping systems, while also providing advanced practical experience through power plant labs. Students receive consistent curriculum delivery despite occasional scheduling changes, ensuring they meet all learning outcomes. Overall, this program offers a balanced education in power engineering principles and hands-on practice, preparing graduates to successfully meet the demands of the industry and pursue TSSA certification.
