COURSE CURRICULUM

In Semester 1, students begin by exploring Interpersonal Communication in Health Promotion, where they develop essential communication skills for effective interaction in healthcare settings. They also study the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care, gaining insight into compassionate end-of-life care. The course on Health Challenges and General Body Systems introduces students to various health conditions and the human body's structure and functions. PSW Foundations provides an overview of the role and responsibilities of personal support workers, while the Personal Support Worker Practice Lab offers hands-on experience to apply their learning in a controlled environment. Professional Practice Preparation helps students build the necessary skills to transition into practical settings, and Mental Health Challenges focuses on understanding and supporting individuals facing mental health issues. In Semester 2, students continue with Pharmacology for PSWs, learning about common medications and their effects, side effects, and safe administration practices. They then move into three consecutive practicum courses—Practicum 1, Practicum 2, and Practicum 3—where they gain real-world experience in various healthcare environments, applying their knowledge and developing their competencies in professional settings.
