COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hospitality Skills certificate program at Durham College offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for a variety of roles within the hospitality industry. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as Communications for Business, Computers for Hospitality, and Customer Service, alongside essential practical skills in Food Safety and Sanitation, Food Preparation and Sustainable Global Cuisine, and Culinary Nutrition. Leadership and team management skills are developed in Managing Teams and Leadership, while Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality provides a broad overview of the industry. The second semester advances students’ expertise with courses like Accounting for Hospitality, Beverage Knowledge, and Restaurant and Beverage Operations, ensuring graduates understand both operational and financial aspects of hospitality businesses. Career Planning supports students in preparing for successful employment, while Hotel Operations focuses on the management of lodging services. A General Education elective allows students to broaden their perspectives and critical thinking abilities.
