COURSE CURRICULUM

The Behavioural Science degree program at Durham College offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares students to apply evidence-based strategies to support individuals with developmental, psychological, and behavioural challenges. Over eight semesters and a field placement, students explore a wide range of courses beginning with foundational topics such as Introduction to Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) concepts, Developmental Psychology, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). The program builds on these with advanced subjects including Ethics in ABA, Abnormal Psychology, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Quantitative Research Methods. Specialized courses like Acquired Brain Injury, Behavioural Pharmacology, and Addictions further broaden students’ clinical understanding. Emphasis is placed on real-world application through courses like Field Placement Preparation, Organizational Behaviour Management, and Applications of Behaviour Analysis, culminating in a hands-on Field Placement. In later semesters, students delve into Behaviourism theory, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, and advanced topics in ABA, alongside developing and completing a two-part thesis project. Breadth electives woven throughout the program encourage interdisciplinary thinking, while courses in Linguistics and Psychometrics support the analysis of communication and behaviour. Graduates emerge with strong theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research experience, prepared for careers in behavioural therapy, mental health support, education, or further study in related fields.
