COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first semester, students are introduced to the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, and mathematics, with courses on biology, chemistry 1, analytical techniques, communication foundations, and an Indigenous elective. They also begin their mathematics studies. The second semester covers introductory biotechnology, organic chemistry 1, and chemistry 2, along with a general education elective and advanced mathematics. In the third semester, students dive into biochemistry, introductory microbiology, career planning and development, and analytical chemistry 1, along with another general education elective. The fourth semester builds on biochemistry with food microbiology, DNA techniques, and analytical instrumentation, further developing their chemistry knowledge with analytical chemistry 2. The fifth semester introduces diagnostic microbiology, protein techniques, cell biology, and spectroscopy and chromatography techniques, with a field placement to apply their skills in real-world settings. Finally, in the sixth semester, students study industrial microbiology, bio-regulations, quality control and assurance for biotechnologists, and bio-processing, continuing their work in spectroscopy and chromatography.
