COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hearing Aid Sciences Diploma program requires completion of 60 credits, covering a comprehensive range of courses designed to prepare students for a career as hearing instrument specialists. Core communication skills are developed through the Workplace Communications course, while foundational knowledge of hearing aids and bioacoustics is built in Hearing Aids and Bioacoustics I and II. Students study the Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear and learn about Hearing Disorders to understand the physical and medical aspects of hearing loss. Practical and clinical skills are emphasized with courses such as Introduction to Hearing Aids, Hearing Testing and Clinical Practices, and Advanced Fitting and Clinical Practices, alongside multiple audiometry courses spanning from basic to advanced levels. Students also learn about hearing aid fitting, analysis, and verification, as well as the use of peripherals and assistive listening devices. Clinical experience is a major component of the program, with three separate Clinical Practicum courses providing hands-on patient interaction and real-world training. Additionally, students study Hearing Instrument Practitioner Regulation and focus on patient interaction skills to effectively counsel individuals with hearing loss. Together, these courses combine theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the Hearing Instrument Practitioner Internship and future registration as hearing instrument practitioners in British Columbia.
