COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Therapy Diploma program requires the completion of 60 credits, structured to provide a strong foundation in psychology, English, science/math, academic music, applied music, and ensemble performance. Students must complete 12 credits in Psychology, including PSYC 1100, PSYC 1200, PSYC 3320, and one of PSYC 2315, 2360, 3321, 3322, 3330, or 3333. Additionally, 6 credits of English are required, with ENGL 1130 and any other university-transferable English course. For the science/math requirement, students must complete 3 credits by choosing PSYC 2315, a university-transferable math course (MATH 1234 recommended), or a science course. An additional 3 credits come from any university-transferable course. In music academics, students complete 12 credits through four academic music courses: Music Theory (MUSC 1110 and 1210) and Music History (MUSC 1120 and one of MUSC 1220, 2320, 2420, PEFA 3136, or PEFA 3236). Ensemble participation contributes 6–8 credits, drawn from options like concert band, jazz, chorus, guitar ensemble, and others. Four applied music courses totaling 9 credits are required, including Aural Skills (MUSC 1115 and 1215) and Popular Guitar and Voice Basics (MUSC 1186 and 1286). Finally, students complete 7–9 music elective credits, chosen from both academic and applied music areas, such as advanced theory, music history, composition, improvisation, studio instruction, class piano, and keyboard harmony. Ensemble courses not already counted can also be used as electives. This comprehensive program is designed to prepare students with the musical, theoretical, and psychological skills necessary for further study or practice in music therapy.
