COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma of Financial Services Management requires completion of a comprehensive set of courses totaling 60 credits, or 69 credits with the Cooperative Education option. Core courses include Principles of Accounting I and II (ACCT 1110 and 1210), Business Mathematics (FINC 1231), Management Essentials (BUSN 1210), Introductory Marketing (MARK 1120), Excel for Business (CSIS 1190), Introductory Business Law (BLAW 1320), Business Ethics (PHIL 1122), and Business Statistics I (BUSN 2429). Students must select two communication courses from Academic Writing (ENGL 1130), Business Communication (CMNS 1115), or Public Speaking (CMNS 1125). For finance-focused courses, students choose between Corporate Finance (FINC 2340) or Introduction to Corporate Finance (FINC 2345). Additional required courses include Principles of Macroeconomics (ECON 1250), Personal Finance I (FINC 2300), Personal Selling (MARK 2150), and Security Analysis (FINC 3390), which aligns with Certified Financial Planner (CFP) standards. Students select four electives from options such as International Financial Management (FINC 3305), Organizational Management Skills (BUSN 3310), Income Tax I (ACCT 3370), Corporate and Financial Planning Law (BLAW 3730), Personal Finance II (FINC 3300), Financial Services Marketing (MARK 3500), Investment Management Techniques (FINC 4340), and Portfolio Management Techniques (FINC 4360). The Cooperative Education option adds a valuable 9-credit practical work experience course (COOP 11008), providing hands-on learning and career readiness. This structured curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared with the knowledge and skills to succeed in various financial services careers and to challenge industry licensing exams, including the FP Canada Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP) exam.
