COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computing Studies and Information Systems (CSIS) program requires completion of 60 credits of coursework, with an optional Co-operative Education (Co-op) component adding 9 additional credits for a total of 69 credits. Students begin by selecting one foundational accounting course, either ACCT 1110 Principles of Accounting I or ACCT 1235 Principles of Introductory Financial Accounting I & II, both worth 3 credits. They then choose two courses from key business and economics options, including BUSN 1210 Management Essentials, ECON 1101 The Canadian Economy, ECON 1150 Principles of Microeconomics, or ECON 1250 Principles of Macroeconomics, each also worth 3 credits. Required core courses cover a broad range of computing and business fundamentals, including CMNS 1115 Business Communication, MARK 1120 Introductory Marketing, and several essential computing courses such as CSIS 1175 Introduction to Programming I, CSIS 1280 Multimedia Web Development, CSIS 2175 Advanced Integrated Software Development, CSIS 2200 Systems Analysis & Design, CSIS 2260 Operating Systems, CSIS 2270 Virtualization and Computer Networking, and CSIS 2300 Database I, each valued at 3 credits. Advanced topics include CSIS 3175 Introduction to Mobile Application Development, CSIS 3290 Fundamentals of Machine Learning in Data Science, CSIS 3380 Advanced Web Programming with Javascript & AJAX, and CSIS 3560 Scripting for Cybersecurity. Students must also complete four additional 3000 to 4000 level CSIS courses, not included in the required list, totaling 12 credits. The program offers an optional Co-operative Education course, COOP 11001 Co-Operative Education I, which adds 9 credits and provides valuable paid, full-time work experience in the field. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with the technical and business skills needed to succeed in the computing and information systems industry.
