COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Communications requires the successful completion of 30 credits, beginning with a foundation in key communication concepts. Students must complete four required CMNS courses: CMNS 1104 (Foundations of Intercultural Communication), CMNS 1125 (Public Speaking), CMNS 1216 (Interpersonal Skills for the Workplace), and CMNS 1221 (Introduction to Media and Communication Studies). Additionally, students select one course from workplace writing and professional communication options including CMNS 1110, 1111, 1115, or 1135. A further CMNS course must be chosen from a wide range of advanced topics such as CMNS 1210, 1217, 1220, 2115, 2125, 2200, 2223, 2316, or 2317, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests. The program also includes two philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, or behavioural science courses from options such as PHIL 1101, 1102, 1122, 2201, POLI 1101, PSYC 1100, 1200, SOCI 1125, 1155, SOSC 2140, or any transferable Modern Languages (MODL) course. To round out the certificate, students choose two additional university-transferable Arts or Science electives at the 1000 level or higher. This structure ensures a well-rounded education in communication while allowing flexibility to explore related disciplines.
