COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting Certificate program requires a total of 30 credits, encompassing a comprehensive set of courses designed to build a strong foundation in accounting principles and related business skills. Core courses include Principles of Accounting I and II (ACCT 1110 and ACCT 1210), which introduce fundamental accounting concepts and practices, and Computer Applications for Accounting (ACCT 1222), which focuses on practical accounting software skills. Students also complete Introductory Managerial Accounting (ACCT 2320) and Intermediate Accounting I (ACCT 3310) to deepen their understanding of financial management and accounting processes. The program emphasizes proficiency in business tools through the Excel for Business course (CSIS 1190), essential for managing financial data efficiently. Students select one quantitative course, choosing between Business Mathematics (FINC 1231) or Calculus for the Social Sciences (MATH 1125), to enhance their analytical skills. Communication skills are also prioritized, with a choice between Business Communication (CMNS 1115) or Academic Writing (ENGL 1130), preparing students to effectively present financial information. Additionally, students choose two electives from a range of business-related courses including accounting, business, law, computer science, economics, finance, or marketing, allowing for some specialization or broader business knowledge.
