COURSE CURRICULUM

The Healthcare Informatics program at Confederation College offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills necessary to manage and analyze health data effectively in a variety of healthcare settings. In the first semester, students develop foundational knowledge in intercultural communication, Microsoft Excel, health data acquisition and management, data collection ethics, database management, health systems and policy, and the sociology of community with an Indigenous context. This diverse base ensures students understand both the technical and social aspects of healthcare data. The second semester builds on this foundation with advanced courses in project management, continued health data acquisition and management, statistics for data analytics, and communication skills tailored for interprofessional healthcare teams. Students also learn data mining techniques specific to health analytics, preparing them to uncover valuable insights from complex datasets. Additionally, the program emphasizes leadership and management skills necessary to drive change within health informatics settings. The program culminates with a capstone project, allowing students to integrate their learning through practical, real-world applications. This hands-on project experience ensures graduates are job-ready and capable of contributing meaningfully to healthcare organizations by improving patient care and operational efficiency through data-driven decision-making.
