COURSE CURRICULUM

Confederation College’s Police Foundations program is a two-year comprehensive pre-employment diploma that prepares students for a career in law enforcement and public safety. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as College Writing, Canadian Justice System, Introduction to Modern Policing, and Interpersonal and Strategic Communication, alongside physical training through Fitness and Lifestyles Management I. Students also gain exposure to Security Practices and a general education elective. In the second semester, the focus shifts to legal studies, including Provincial Statutes, Criminal Code and Federal Statutes, and Border Services and Corrections, while continuing physical and mental preparedness with Fitness and Lifestyles Management II and Addiction Awareness for First Responders. The third semester emphasizes practical law enforcement knowledge with courses such as Public Safety and Emergency Management, Arrest, Search and Use of Force, Introduction to Forensics GIT I, Law Enforcement Ethics and Leadership, and YCJA - Diversionary and Alternative Measures. Students also develop critical skills in Conflict Management and Crisis Intervention and Fitness and Resiliency for Policing. In the final semester, students explore modern topics like Cyber-Security, Community Mobilization and Engagement, and Crime Scene Analysis and Reconstruction GIT I, with hands-on training in Use of Force - Basics, Interpersonal and Tactical Responses, and Career Fitness Testing. A final general education elective completes the curriculum. Taught by current and former law enforcement professionals, this program blends theoretical and practical learning, positioning graduates for careers in municipal, provincial, or federal policing, border services, corrections, and other public safety roles.
