COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film Production program at Confederation College offers a comprehensive two-year diploma designed to immerse students in every aspect of filmmaking. Starting with foundational courses such as Filmmaking I: Shooting the First Film, Cameras and Lighting, Producing and Directing I, Intro to Post Production, Photography, and The History of Movies, students gain essential technical skills and film knowledge. In the second semester, the curriculum expands with courses like Film Business, Filmmaking II: Shooting the Second Film, Cinematography and Sound, Producing and Directing II, Film and Sound Editing, Scriptwriting I, Acting and Casting, and Art Direction and Production Design. This blend of theory and practice equips students to handle multiple facets of production and storytelling. The third semester deepens expertise with Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking, Filmmaking III: Shooting the Thesis Film, Cinematography & Grip Equipment, Producing and Directing III, Advanced Editing & Digital Special Effects, Scriptwriting II, Advanced Production Design, and an elective, encouraging both creative and technical growth. In the final semester, students focus on advanced production theory, producing and directing IV, sound design and audio mixing, colour correction and grading, freelancing, and another elective, preparing them for professional work and independent projects. The program’s hands-on approach, with opportunities to create multiple films and access industry-standard equipment, ensures graduates leave ready to thrive in various film production roles. The integration of practical and business knowledge supports students in building sustainable careers in the competitive film industry.
