COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year Business – Accounting diploma program at Confederation College is structured over four academic terms and is designed to develop a solid foundation in both general business knowledge and specialized accounting skills. In the first term, students complete core courses including Introduction to Financial Accounting, College Writing, Introduction to Business, Business Math, Introduction to Human Resources, Introduction to Marketing, and a general education elective, providing a broad base in business fundamentals. The second term builds on this foundation with more advanced content in Financial Accounting II, Business Communications, Microeconomics, Microsoft Excel, Organizational Behaviour, Financial Math, and Marketing II. In the third term, the focus shifts to more intensive accounting studies, including Intermediate Accounting I, Management Accounting I, Accounting Practices I, Macroeconomics, and Statistics, along with another elective. This term introduces students to key accounting processes and economic analysis essential for informed financial decision-making. The final term further deepens accounting expertise with courses such as Finance I, Intermediate Accounting II, Accounting Information Systems, Taxation I, Accounting Practices II, and Business Law, in addition to a final elective. This progression ensures that graduates are well-prepared for entry-level roles in accounting across both private and public sectors, with the ability to manage financial records, analyze budgets, and apply key business regulations. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, real-world application, and the use of accounting software and systems, preparing students to meet current industry standards. Students also have the option to continue their studies by enrolling in the third-year Business Administration – Accounting program for more advanced opportunities. With a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the program lays a strong foundation for students aiming to pursue a career in accounting or further professional certifications such as CPA.
