COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aviation Technician — Aircraft Maintenance program at Confederation College offers a comprehensive curriculum spread over four semesters, designed to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for a career in aviation maintenance. The first semester introduces foundational topics such as reciprocating engines, aircraft electrical systems, aerodynamics, structures, and standard practices, combining classroom learning with extensive lab work to build essential hands-on skills. In the second semester, students continue advancing their expertise in structures, turbines, aircraft electrical systems, and standard practices, alongside a mandatory co-op work term that provides invaluable real-world experience between the second and third semesters. The third semester deepens students’ understanding of airframe systems, reciprocating engines, aircraft instrumentation, turbines, rotary systems, and includes both theory and lab components to prepare students for complex maintenance tasks. Courses such as Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS) and Human Factors are integrated to ensure compliance and safety awareness. The final semester focuses on advanced avionics, rotary and turbine engines, airframe systems, and includes significant lab time to consolidate practical skills. Students also engage in elective courses to broaden their knowledge base, with options that include Indigenous studies to enhance cultural awareness. Throughout the program, students balance rigorous theoretical instruction with hands-on learning, preparing them thoroughly for certification and a successful career in aircraft maintenance. This well-rounded approach, combined with the industry-aligned co-op placement, ensures graduates are workforce-ready and meet the high standards required in the aerospace industry.
