COURSE CURRICULUM

Power Techniques – Automotive certificate program is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. The program is structured into two semesters, with the first semester featuring modular courses such as Applied Work Practices, Engine and Ancillary Systems, and Electrical/Electronics 1, delivered over 14 to 15 weeks alongside Communications for the Trades. These courses involve intensive hands-on learning, with Applied Work Practices and Engine Systems each totaling 90 hours, and Electrical/Electronics 1 totaling 72 hours, ensuring students build a strong foundation in automotive systems. Maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA is required to progress to the second semester, where students advance to more specialized subjects, including Electrical, Electronics and Fuel Systems II, Drive Train Systems, Steering, Suspension and Brakes, and Maintenance & Body Systems. Each of these second-semester modules involves 80 hours of focused instruction and practice, emphasizing industry-relevant skills. The program culminates with a two-week, 80-hour field placement, giving students valuable real-world experience in a professional shop environment. This blend of classroom instruction, modular hands-on training, and practical fieldwork prepares graduates to meet industry standards and adapt to technological advancements in automotive repair and maintenance. Students completing this program will be well-equipped for immediate employment or to pursue apprenticeship opportunities, positioning themselves for successful careers in the automotive trade.
