COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Techniques certificate program at Confederation College provides a well-rounded and practical introduction to the skilled trades, preparing students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. In the first semester, students develop a strong academic and technical foundation through courses like College Writing, Applied Math for Technology I, and Microsoft Office. Technical courses such as Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Practices, Machine Shop I, Welding Practices I, and Applied Physics I introduce students to essential industry practices and tools, allowing them to work on real-world projects from the start. The second semester builds on this knowledge with Applied Physics II and Applied Math for Technology II, deepening students’ understanding of scientific and mathematical principles in mechanical work. Courses such as Machine Shop II and Welding Practices II enhance technical abilities, while Power Transmission I and Industrial Design I focus on more specialized areas within the mechanical field. Introduction to Electricity broadens their exposure to electrical components and systems commonly used in industrial environments. An elective course allows for some personalization of learning. This program is ideal for students who are exploring career options in the trades and want to gain a broad set of skills before choosing a specific path. Graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce or transition directly into the second year of the Mechanical Engineering Technician program, thanks to the aligned curriculum.
