COURSE CURRICULUM

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Confederation College offers a well-rounded curriculum designed to prepare students for a successful career in healthcare. The first semester includes foundational courses such as College Writing, Therapeutic Nurse Client Relationships, Fundamental Skills for PSW Practice, Fundamental Knowledge of PSW Practice, PSW Roles and Responsibilities, and Anatomy & Physiology. These courses provide students with essential communication skills, knowledge of healthcare practices, and an understanding of the human body, all crucial for delivering effective care. In the second semester, the focus shifts toward practical experience and advanced knowledge. Students engage in extensive clinical practice through PSW Clinical Practice I and Clinical Preceptorship, which together total nearly 300 hours of hands-on training in real healthcare environments. This allows students to apply their classroom learning in practical settings, developing confidence and competence in patient care. Additionally, courses such as Advanced Fundamental Knowledge of PSW Practice and PSW Care Across the Lifespan deepen students' understanding of complex care needs and the diverse populations they will serve. The combination of theoretical knowledge, skill-building, and clinical experience equips graduates with the tools necessary to provide compassionate, competent care in various healthcare settings. This comprehensive program ensures that students graduate ready to meet the growing demand for Personal Support Workers and make a meaningful difference in the lives of their clients.
