COURSE CURRICULUM

Medical Laboratory Assistant program is a one-year certificate that combines in-depth classroom instruction with hands-on technical training to prepare students for careers in clinical laboratories and healthcare settings. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge and skills through courses such as Laboratory Techniques, Laboratory Communications, Anatomy, Math, and introductory lab-focused subjects including Laboratory Skills I and Laboratory Foundations. An elective course offers additional flexibility to explore related topics of interest. These courses develop precision, analytical thinking, and attention to detail—critical qualities in lab environments. In the second semester, students dive into more advanced and specialized areas of laboratory science. Courses such as Hematology I, Chemistry I, Microbiology I, Transfusion I, and Histology I provide students with a broad understanding of diagnostic testing and sample analysis. Laboratory Skills II continues the hands-on training, enhancing proficiency with laboratory instruments and procedures. The semester culminates in ML 220 Placement, a 150-hour clinical experience that immerses students in a real-world healthcare setting where they apply their skills in patient care, sample collection, testing preparation, and medical equipment use. This placement reinforces classroom learning, provides valuable industry experience, and prepares students for immediate employment in hospitals, private laboratories, and other healthcare facilities. The program's balanced approach ensures graduates are workforce-ready with both technical competence and a strong understanding of patient-centered care.
