COURSE CURRICULUM

The Community and Social Service Management program at Conestoga College offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the not-for-profit and community service sectors. In Level 1, students begin with a strong foundation in key areas including The Social Economy (BUS8400), which explores the role of not-for-profits in Canadian society, and Public Policy and Government Relations (BUS8650), which focuses on navigating the governmental landscape affecting community organizations. Conestoga 101 (CON0101) provides orientation to college resources, while Human Resources: Foundations (HRM8420) introduces essential HR practices. Financial acumen is built through Financial Management in Community Services (MGMT8820), and students explore participatory models in Community Development and Engagement (MGMT8930). Management in Community Services (MGMT8940) equips students with operational leadership skills, and Safety in the Workplace (OHS1320) ensures awareness of occupational safety standards. In Level 2, students deepen their expertise through Program Design and Evaluation (BUS8660), where they learn to build and assess effective community programs. A hands-on Field Placement (FPLT8372) offers practical experience in a community setting. Community Centred Fundraising (FUND8000) teaches strategies for sustainable funding, while Human Resources: Quality Improvement and Risk Management (HRM8430) emphasizes maintaining organizational integrity. The term concludes with Community Leadership (MGMT8150), a course focused on ethical, inclusive, and visionary leadership in the sector. This integrated and applied approach equips graduates to step into supervisory and management roles with confidence and competence across diverse community-based, government, and non-profit organizations.
