COURSE CURRICULUM

The Systems Navigation program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to support clients as they navigate complex health and social systems. In the first level, students develop foundational competencies through courses such as Professional Communication in Systems Navigation, Health and Social Systems Navigation, and Strength-Based Approaches to Systems Navigation, which focus on effective communication and client-centered strategies. The curriculum also covers critical topics such as Health Equity and Quality, Client Advocacy and Culturally Responsive Service, and Mental Health and Addictions in Systems Navigation, equipping students with an understanding of diverse client needs and challenges. In the second level, the program advances students’ abilities through courses like Interprofessional Collaboration in Health and Social Systems and Intake, Assessment, and Case Management, emphasizing teamwork and comprehensive client evaluation. The practical Systems Navigation Practice course allows students to apply their learning in real-world contexts, culminating in the Systems Navigation Capstone, which integrates and synthesizes program knowledge. Additionally, Legal and Ethical Foundations of System Navigation ensures students are prepared to operate within regulatory frameworks and uphold professional standards. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on culturally responsive care, advocacy, and collaborative approaches to improve client outcomes. Graduates will be ready to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, supporting clients to access timely, appropriate, and quality services across health, social, and community sectors, thereby contributing to the well-being of individuals and communities.
