Conestoga’s three-year Software Engineering Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build strong programming skills and prepare students for diverse careers in software development. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in programming through courses such as Programming: Web Foundations, Programming Concepts I, and Database Foundations, while also learning about technology infrastructure and mathematics for IT. The second year focuses on software engineering fundamentals, web design, operating systems, and C programming, providing a solid base in both theory and practical application. In the third year, students advance their programming knowledge with Object-Oriented Programming, Advanced SQL, Data Structures, and System Programming, further enhancing their ability to develop complex software solutions. The fourth year introduces specialized topics like Windows Network Programming, NoSQL databases, Application Security, Microprocessors and Embedded Systems, and Software Quality, equipping students with skills relevant to current industry demands. The fifth year emphasizes cutting-edge technologies and concepts, including advanced machine learning techniques, network application development, advanced software quality, the Internet of Things, advanced web frameworks, and performance optimization. Throughout the program, students also complete general education courses to develop communication and workplace skills. This well-rounded approach ensures graduates are prepared for careers in mobile applications, embedded systems, IoT, cybersecurity, and big data. The optional co-op component provides valuable work experience, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world settings and build professional networks.
