The Energy Systems Engineering Technology - Electrical program at Conestoga is a comprehensive three-year advanced diploma with an optional 16-month co-op, designed to prepare students for careers in the electricity sector. In Level 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Electrical Principles, Electrical Skills I, Introduction to Digital Electronics, Drawing I, and Mathematics I, along with essential communication and computer application courses. Level 2 advances their knowledge with courses like Programmable Logic Controllers I, Electrical Fundamentals (Power), Electrical Skills II, Drawing II, Introduction to Instrumentation, and Mathematics II, supported by physics and general education electives. By Level 3, students delve into practical and technical areas including Programmable Logic Controllers II, Electrical Projects, DC Motor/Generator and Control, Industrial Power Electronics, Introduction to Photovoltaic Systems, and Safety Standards for Electrical Systems, with elective options. Level 4 focuses on electrical regulations and systems with courses such as Electrical Code, Power Transformers, Graphic Interface to PLCs, AC Motor/Alternator and Control, Embedded Design, and Instrumentation for Electrical Systems. Level 5 deepens expertise in advanced AC theory, energy systems design, HVAC and industrial processes, conservation and energy management, project planning, networking principles, and programming applications for energy systems. The final Level 6 includes specialized courses on Transformer Design, Renewable and Low Energy Design, Power Systems Transmission and Distribution, Energy Systems Lab, Energy Systems Design II, and a Final Project, integrating practical and theoretical knowledge. Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on labs and projects, preparing them for careers in electrical design, system operation, energy consulting, and more, while meeting requirements for Certified Engineering Technologist certification through OACETT.
