Advanced Diploma in Architectural Technology – Sustainable Building Design and Construction at Conestoga offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers all facets of the building process, emphasizing sustainable design and practical skills. In the first year, foundational courses such as Principles of Architectural Graphics and Design, Building Information Modeling I, Statics, Construction Materials, Mathematics, and Surveying introduce students to essential concepts and technical skills. The second year builds on this foundation with courses including Construction Drawings (Residential), Building Information Modeling II, Mechanics of Materials, Building Code I, advanced Construction Materials, Mathematics II, and College Reading & Writing Across Contexts to enhance communication skills. In the third year, students advance to more complex topics such as Construction Drawings for Small Commercial buildings, Architectural Design, Structural Design with steel, Building Science, Building Services, and Estimating. The fourth year further develops expertise with Construction Drawings for Multi-Use buildings, Building Information Modeling III, Structural Design for concrete, advanced Building Codes, Building Services, and Estimating. The fifth year focuses on detailed construction drawings, architectural team design, building performance studies, advanced estimating, building services, and electrical design. In the final year, students participate in a Team Project Documentation course, Building Environment Design, Structural Design for wood, Contracts and Specifications, Construction Management, and advanced Electrical Design. Throughout the program, students also complete general education electives. This progression ensures graduates are well-prepared for the complexities of sustainable building design and construction, equipped with technical knowledge and practical experience to succeed in the evolving construction industry.
