COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welding and Fabrication Technician program is a comprehensive two-year diploma designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in welding and metal fabrication. In Level 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Computer Applications, Engineering Drawing Interpretation, Trade Calculations, and Welding Process Theory. Practical skills are developed through Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Semi-Automatic Welding, and Thermal Cutting and Brazing. Level 2 builds on this foundation, with advanced courses in CAD for Fabrication Technology, Trade Calculations, Welding Processes Theory, and specialized welding techniques such as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Students also study Welding Quality and Inspection and are introduced to Metal Fabrication, preparing them for more complex fabrication tasks. Level 3 focuses on CAD/CAM for Fabrication Technology, Pattern and Template Development, and advanced Trade Calculations. Students deepen their welding knowledge through Metal Fabrication Theory, Welding Qualification, and Metal Fabrication Techniques, enhancing both theoretical understanding and practical skills. Electives in general education support well-rounded learning. In the final Level 4, students advance their skills with CAD/CAM for Fabrication Technology II, Metal Fabrication Theory II, Welding Qualification II, and Metal Fabrication Techniques II. The program also covers Metal Fabrication Rigging and Installation, Materials and Quality, and Welding Process Applications, ensuring graduates are prepared for the demands of the industry. General education electives continue to broaden student knowledge. This structured progression equips students with the expertise needed to excel in welding and fabrication careers, including the ability to pursue apprenticeship exemptions and welding qualifications through the Canadian Welding Bureau.
