COURSE CURRICULUM

The Payroll Administration diploma program spans four levels, equipping students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in payroll, accounting, and human resources necessary for effective payroll management within organizations. Level 1 introduces foundational subjects including Introductory Financial Accounting I and II (ACCT1030, ACCT1040), Personal and Advanced Personal Tax Returns (ACCT1520, ACCT1550), Business Computing Applications (COMP1056), Business Mathematics (MATH1010), and Interpersonal and Group Dynamics (COMM1030). Students also develop essential college reading and writing skills (COMM1085) and receive an orientation through Conestoga 101 (CON0101). Level 2 builds on this foundation with courses such as Excel in Accounting (ACCT1495), Cost and Management Accounting I (ACCT2020), Accounting Applications I (ACCT2225), and Payroll Compliance Legislation (CPAY1000). In Level 3, students advance their expertise with Accounting Applications II (ACCT3150), Payroll Fundamentals I (CPAY1010), Client Communications and Entrepreneurship (ENTR2090), Compensation (HRM1050), and Canadian Employment Law (HRM1095), alongside general education electives. The final level, Level 4, focuses on specialized skills including Advanced Excel in Accounting (ACCT3135), Payroll Fundamentals II (CPAY2000), Applied Payroll Software (CPAY2010), Fundamentals of Employee Benefits Program (HRM1110), and Introduction to Management for Payroll Professionals (MGMT1495), complemented by elective courses. Together, these courses prepare graduates to proficiently handle payroll processing, compliance with legislative requirements, employee compensation, and benefits administration, as well as develop management and communication skills vital for payroll leadership roles.
