COURSE CURRICULUM

Conestoga College’s Mechanical Technician – General Machinist program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with advanced machining skills and knowledge essential for success in the manufacturing sector. The program begins with foundational courses such as Precision Machining Theory and Practice, Engineering Drawings and CAD Solid Modelling, and Applied Technical Mathematics, ensuring students build a strong technical base. In the second year, students progress to more specialized topics including CNC Manual Programming, Precision Machining II, and Metrology with Coordinate Measuring Machines, emphasizing precision and quality control in manufacturing processes. By Level 3, the focus shifts to CAD/CAM Basic and Advanced Machining Theory and Practice courses, providing students with hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge in computer-aided design and manufacturing, and advanced machining techniques. Level 4 deepens this expertise with CAD/CAM Advanced and advanced theory and practice courses, preparing students for complex machining tasks and enhancing their problem-solving abilities. Throughout the program, students also complete general education electives, broadening their skill set and ensuring a well-rounded education. This structured progression from fundamental skills to advanced applications is complemented by the option of co-op work terms, offering valuable industry experience. Graduates are well-prepared for immediate employment in machining roles or to advance in apprenticeship programs, with many receiving exemptions from Levels 1 and 2 in-school apprenticeship training. The program’s blend of theory, practical skills, and real-world application prepares students effectively for careers as general machinists and related manufacturing positions.
