COURSE CURRICULUM

Conestoga’s Interior Decorating program offers a comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to build both creative and technical skills essential for success in the field. In Level 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts such as Colour Theory, Interior Materials and Finishes I, Design Fundamentals, Digital Applications for Interior Decorating, and College Reading & Writing, along with an orientation course, Conestoga 101. Moving into Level 2, the focus shifts to more advanced skills like Space Planning and Drafting, Illustrative Techniques, Fabrics and Textiles, Interior Materials and Finishes II, History of Design and Decorating, and Staging and Composition, enriching students’ understanding of design history and practical staging skills. Level 3 introduces specialized courses including Computer Aided Drafting and Design I, Studio I for Interior Decorating, Introduction to Sustainable Design, Residential Construction and Design, Lighting Methods and Fixtures, and Safety in the Workplace, alongside a general education elective, providing both creative and technical training in sustainability and construction knowledge. The final Level 4 includes Computer Aided Drafting and Design II, Studio II for Interior Decorating, Built Environment, Business and Sales Strategies, Project Management for Interior Decorating, and a crucial Field Placement, allowing students to apply their learning in a professional setting and gain real-world experience. The combination of business, technical drafting, design studios, and a field placement equips graduates with a well-rounded skill set, preparing them to excel in the interior decorating industry. This structured curriculum, along with access to industry-standard software and materials, supports students in developing portfolios and professional connections critical for career success.
